Veteran actor SN Lakshmi passed away in Chennai.  She was 85.  SN Lakshmi has played mother role for MGR, Sivaji and Gemini Ganesan.  She is an ardent fan of Kamal Haasan and has acted in many of his movies.

She starred in number of movies as ‘Michael Madhana Kama Rajan’, ‘Mahanadhi’ and ‘Virumaandi’.  SN Lakshmi has acted in more than 1000 movies in Tamil and Telugu.  She has also made appearances in small screen.

A few weeks back she slipped and fell in the shooting spot.  Due to the fall she sustained injury in the spinal cord.  Following this she was admitted in a private hospital at Chennai.

A few days back, when she met small screen actors she told she would recover and be back to schedules.  But yesterday her health suddenly deteriorated and she passed away in the hospital last night.

Since she was interested in the field of histrionics, she entered drama troops when she was as young as 6 years.  She made a slow and steady progress and moved to cinema.

She has played mother role for actors as MGR, Sivaji, Gemini, Nagesh and Ravichandran.  In the cine field, she used her own voice for dubbing until last.

 Since she was particular about being punctual to the shooting spot, she did not even employ a car driver.  She used to drive to the shooting spot herself. Only recently, she stopped car driving considering health conditions.

SN Lakshmi who was keenly bent on acting did not marry until last.  She lived with her brother’s granddaughters in Saligramam, Chennai.

Late SN Lakshmi’s body has been kept for homage in her residence at Saligramam.  Many cine icons paid homage to her body.  Her final rites are to be conducted in her native place Sennalkudi in Virudunagar district tomorrow (21.02.12).
